deviantART's 11th BirthdAy: Let's Celebrate!
August 7th, 2011 marks deviantART's 11th birthdAy, but in true devious style, we're taking a whole week to celebrate! Our original plans for Deviants Appreciation Day were so huge that there was no possible way to express our love for the community in a mere 24 hours. Instead, we've created Deviants Appreciation Week, and what better time to host a week's worth of community-oriented events than in the days leading up to our birthdAy?
Each day this week, we have something special organized for you to participate in! Check out the schedule of events below to come party with us!
In Skribble, our latest community contest, we challenge
All deviants can now write Critiques by Heidi, journal
All deviants can now write Critiques
:star: Be a giver!
Sometimes you come across a deviation that deserves special attention. It catches your eye in such a way that you're compelled to craft a response that goes above and beyond a normal comment. Or perhaps a fellow deviant is having a tough time with a particular aspect of their work, and you know just what they need to take their art to the next level. As a good Internet citizen and art enthusiast, you want to help them out, but a normal comment doesn't quite suit your purpose.
For these situations and more, we've given everyone the ability to write a Critique.
:? What is Critique?
DeviantART's Critique system is designe

The New Street Photographer's Manifesto
February 7, 2013/by techgnotic (https://www.deviantart.com/techgnotic)
Street photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson called it the “decisive moment”— the captured instant when all the photograph’s elements come together to tell a story in a way a text narrative of thousands of words could never begin to. It is what hooks people, both practitioners and advocate-devotees, on the art form. It is uniquely completely immersive in life— step out into the streets— in which the moment of artistic epiphany can never be guessed at until it suddenly happens. When it is properly mastered, it is as pure as the dawn of each new day, as true as the living

Site Update: Gallery Subfolders, Signatures
In our continuous effort to improve the deviantART experience, we're publishing weekly Site Updates to keep members informed and to gather feedback. Below is a list of recent changes to the site, bug fixes, and feedback that was brought up by members in the last Site Update.
What's New
New Premium Member Feature: Gallery Subfolders
One of the most requested features we've gotten on Site Updates in the past is the ability to add subfolders within your gallery. As of today, the wait is over! Subfolder capability has been added to the member gallery for Premium Members. This allows users to create folders within a folder, for more specific org
Suggestivism
Birth of a New Category or Beginning of the End of Categories?

Just when you thought there couldn’t possibly be another “ism” on the art world horizon, what with the growing accessibility of all
art technique and technology rendering all the “schools of art” equally available and doable and therefore making impossible the dominance
or even existence of any current art “movement” … comes “suggestivism,” the “ism” best summing up what art is in our lives today, defined
more by what it is not, rather than what

Help support our application to manage .ART
View in Spanish
DeviantART announced a month ago that through a new organization, Dadotart we applied to manage a new Top Level Domain (TLD) called “.ART.” We are committed to having the .ART TLD — the Internet addresses that could end in .ART — organized and distributed with the full participation of the global art community.
We need your help!
We need your help to show public support for the Dadotart application. The application process to manage a TLD is long, arduous, and intricate. Help us gather as a true art-centric community. And please spread the word to everyone who loves the arts or is part of the
